Key Foundations of Learning
Each of our academies is supporting our learners in their journey from early years to adulthood through experiences which harness their intellectual curiosity, natural enthusiasm and eager engagement in learning, whilst nurturing their self-esteem, confidence, resilience and well-being. These, we believe, are the key foundations of learning, achievement and attainment. They will be underpinned by a stimulating curriculum which promotes development through a range of active learning opportunities designed to engage in a variety of ways.
Teaching and learning approaches in our academies will:
The learner as an individual
In order to develop confident, aspirational learners, teachers and other adults will promote children and young people’s emotional, mental and physical well-being. We will support and develop positive dispositions and a strong sense of self in everyone, enabling each of our learners to flourish and realise their potential. Our children and young people will be active participants in shaping their learning. We recognise and value pupil voice. We do this so our children and young people develop purposeful initiative, autonomy, self-worth and build positive and constructive relationships with others.
The individual as part of the school community and as a citizen in the wider world
Our academies will develop respect for every individual and for others. The academy community will respect and rejoice in the diversity of humankind, being positive and open to differences in a fair and equal society. Our academies will engender mutual respect between all members of the community and the wider world, with the skills to consider different viewpoints carefully and to question assumptions. The community will promote pupils’ agency to become participatory and engaged local and global citizens and will develop an understanding of human rights, democracy, and social justice within the local and wider national and global community.
